About Transporting a Kitten or Cat

We prefer to have new owners pick up their kittens at Calla Cattery, or to deliver them to new owners at a cat show.  Sometimes, due to distance, it's necessary for a cat to be transported.  Below are some general guidelines for transporting a cat:
  1. Calla Cattery is located just north of Atlanta, GA.  We cannot ship kittens or cats from 12/1 through 3/1 or from 7/1 through 9/1 due to weather extremes. The airlines are getting more and more stringent about shipping live animals during cold and hot months of the year, making shipping logistics very difficult.
  2. We only transport on non-stop flights.  While the plane is in the air, the cat is in a pressure and temperature controlled environment, much like the passenger cabin.  When the plane is on the ground, the cat is exposed to weather elements such as extreme heat or cold./li>
  3. Most airlines prohibit shipment of cats in temperatures below 45 degrees and above 84 degrees. Calla concurs with this as it is a danger to the cats life to travel in these temperatures.
  4. Cost of travel is approximately $300 as detailed below. These costs are in addition to the cost of the kitten/cat:
    • Airfare - $175 to $200
    • Health certificate, rabies, acclimatization cert - $75
    • Cat Carrier - $25 - 30
  5. Being in Atlanta, we prefer to ship on Delta. If Delta does not fly into your area, we will work with you to locate another air carrier. Read about Delta's Pet Cargo policies.
  6. Due to our schedules, all kitten shipments must occur on weekends.
  7. Cost of kitten and all other costs of transport must be paid in advance of shipment. Sorry, no C.O.D.'s .
